so yesterday in l.a a bunch of musicians(including me)were asked to announce this years grammy nominees. and i guess i caused a bit of a ruckus by announcing barbara streisands record, “”our current president is inept and needs to thrown out of office in 2004″”.suffice it to say that this is not the actual title of ms. streisand’s record, i was just engaging in a little bit of situationist politicizing.
hopefully ms streisand won’t mind, cos i think that she’s a progressively minded(aka liberal pinko tree hugger)person like me, and i can only assume that she would agree with the statement ‘our current president is inept and needs to be thrown out of office in 2004.’
i also might have said a few things about the record business(which i’ll get into in a later journal entry), and i do feel the need to qualify my statements about the corruption and evil of the music business by saying that i do genuinely like the labels to which i’m signed(those being mute & v2), and i don’t in any way think of mute or v2 as being corrupt or evil. in fact i think of mute and v2 as being examples of the good side of the music business(meaning that mute & v2 actually care about music and musicians and that they actually develop artists careers and release great records and i’m actually proud to be on both mute & v2 and i’m not being sycophantic, i do genuinely take pride in being on the same labels as goldfrapp and nick cave and the white stripes and underworld and elbow and plastikman and so on and so on).
that’s it.
thanks
