yup, 8 a.m, time for bed…
but before i tuck myself in let me say that the worst song of all time is probably:
‘where do you go to my lovely?’ by peter saarsted
but the pleasure derived from really bad songs almost invariably renders them wonderful, in my opinion.
if you can find ‘where do you go to my lovely?’ you won’t be disappointed.
it makes you want to find this man and study him, for how is it possible that a human being could make something so awful?
others:
‘rape’ by peter wyngard
‘deathtrape 2000’ by wiseblood
‘tainted love’ by coil
that beach boys song…’bermuda, jamaica, come on i wanna take you…’
oh, that song pains me…
‘we built this city on rock & roll’ starship
‘my love’s in jeapordy’ greg kihn and the kihnspiracy
and pretty much anything by huey lewis and the news.
‘deathrape 2000’ is actually pretty wonderful, now that i think of it. it’s 15 minutes of a sampled kettle drum loop. i used to play it to make people leave a nightclub where i worked, and it was always successful.
and ‘tainted love’ by coil is also kind of wonderful in it’s own twisted way.
but ‘rape’ by peter wyngard is probably the most offensive song ever made. in the song he does parodies of what rape would sound like in different countries…i kid you not. hard record to find, but somehow worth it cos it’s so unbelievably awful, although the music’s actually not too bad. but his ‘spoken word’ stuff is mindboggling in it’s offensive terribleness.
how about sexiest songs/albums?
any thoughts?
my first vote would be massive attacks ‘mezzanine’
