ok, i’ll wade back into the ‘why the christian right isn’t actually christian’ debate again.
for starters, i’m not criticizing people’s beliefs.
i might disagree with a lot of what right-wing republicans believe, but i’d never try to restrict their ability to believe and express what they choose to believe and express.
i guess that what i’m trying to convey is my confusion as to why pro-war, anti-environment, anti-science, anti-evolution, pro-capitalist conservatives call themselves christian, when the teachings of christ are anti-war, pro-gods natural creation, anti-capitalist, and never mention homosexuality or abortion or evolution.
again, it’s the same confusion i’d have in the face of vegetarians who ate veal and pork chops.
or the same confusion i’d have in the face of jazz fans who only listened to punk rock.
or yankees fans who only support the red sox.
i’d say to them, ‘if you want to listen to punk rock, great, but why call yourself a jazz fan?’
‘if you want to support the red sox, fine, but why call yourself a yankees fan?’
to wit: ‘if you want to be anti-evolution and anti-homosexuality and anti-environment and pro-war, well, fine, but why call yourself a christian?’
hopefully i’ve cleared up my position a bit.
