when people talk about disliking l.a, or finding it ugly i don't really understand what they're talking about. sure, there are ugly strip malls and freeways in l.a, but there's so much beauty here, it's just not as easy to find as in other cities.
if you're in florence or paris or new york or edinburgh, for example, it's pretty to easy to find the beautiful stuff, as it tends to be big, old, and in the middle of the town.
l.a's the exact opposite, as all of the beautiful stuff is on the outskirts of town, so you actually have to search for it. for example, a friend of mine was hiking in l.a today and she sent me this picture. do you know of any other city where you can hike in the middle of 2,000,000 acres of state park and still be 30 minutes from downtown? to wit: l.a at it's dirtiest and grimiest…
yes, that's l.a.
or, here's a picture i took yesterday at dawn:
so, when someone says that they don't like l.a i can only conclude that they haven't actually looked around. there's so much strange and amazing beauty here, you just have to make a little bit of an effort to find it.
