welcome home. well, i guess i’m saying that to myself. i just got back to nyc and it’s perfect. hot and sultry and not a cloud in the sky.
oh, speaking of weather, the european festival tour we just finished was amazing for many reasons (good shows, great audiences, etc), but one reason it was amazing is that we only had 15 minutes of rain on the whole tour. yes, a festival tour of europe with only 15 minutes of rain (in arras, and it was pretty dramatic, a deluge in the middle of the show). i’ve done festival tours where it’s rained EVERY SINGLE DAY. but this time? no rain. and almost every city/town we went to we heard the same thing: ‘oh, it’s been raining for 3 weeks, but today is beautiful’. so, whoever arranged the amazing weather, thank you. i mean, isn’t it odd to be in europe for 2 months and have it be sunny and warm the entire time? oh, it drizzled in wales, too. i forgot that one. but it had been hot and sunny in manchester earlier in the day, so welsh drizzle doesn’t count.
in other news: it’s obama’s birthday. happy birthday, mr president! yesterday when i was coming through immigration at newark airport i saw his picture by the immigration desks and i realized that for 8 years i had to stare at gw bush’s howdy-doody face every time i came back into the country, and now he’s gone. don’t you remember? 8 years of gw bush and wolfowitz and rumsfeld and cheney and the others? and now they’re all gone. which is nice.
happy birthday, president obama. and welcome home (to me). a hot, sultry city in a country with a smart, progressive commander in chief, and we just finished a wonderful 2 month (sunny) european tour. sometimes its nice to acknowledge that things are pretty good.
