Journal / Web-Site Information

now i know that some of my updates are frivolous and silly, but this one isn’t.
which is not to say that this is going to be a ponderous and heavy-handed update, but it is a serious one. so here goes:
there’s an abundance of people in the united states (and the rest of the western world) who have a lot of free time and a lot of extra money.
there are trillions of dollars floating around in personal hands.
trillions of dollars growing and earning interest, but which could be used towards improving the circumstances for a lot of impoverished people around the world.
one reason that a lot of wealthy people don’t donate more of their money to charities is that, quite simply, they don’t know which charities to give money to.
people who have lots of money are usually very busy working, so they don’t have a lot of time to search out charities to give money to.
and even if someone does find a seemingly worthwhile charity, how does that person know if it’s well run and if the money will actually accomplish something?

and then there’s the problem of people with free time that they might want to use in helping others and by volunteering for worthy causes.
how does someone find out about worthy causes to volunteer for?
what i’m wondering is this: is there a web-site that dispenses, comprehensively, this sort of information? and, if not, then what can we do to build such a site?
i envision a web-site that would have a comprehensive list of charitable organizations as well as a simple explanation of the charity’s finances and, of course, a link to the different charities web-sites. ii also envision a web-site that could put people in touch with local organizations where they might be able to volunteer their time.
if such a comprehensive web-site doesn’t exist i think that we should construct it.
i’ll put up some money to do this if anyone else is interested.
i, personally, know nothing about building web-sites. but i think that a web-site like this would serve a real need.
thanks
