so last friday night i went to the vh-1/vogue fashion awards. allow me to write a little something about the night, ok? i won’t spoil anything by telling you who the winners were (hahah, that was supposed to be funny, what with the idea of having an awards show one week or so before it actually airs on tv). ok, as awards shows go this one was really fun, and for two simple reasons.
reason 1-instead of sitting in auditorium style seats we all sat at little tables.
so people were walking around and it was quite loose.
reason 2-liqour. the demon liquour was being consumed from start to finish by almost everyone involved, and i’m sure that if you watch the awards you’ll see that things get a lot more relaxed by the end. it was almost like a uk style awards show in it’s drunkenness. not to advocate liquour consumption, but it was fun.
oh, reason 3-de la guarda. they performed before i won (i mean, might have won…) my award and they were amazing. if you haven’t seen their show on 15th street in nyc you really have to. it’s remarkable. what i said in my acceptance speech about wanting to have sex with each and every cast member is the truth…(ok, slightly facetious and hyperbolic truth).
senator clinton and mayor giuliani both spoke, and in an interesting contrast to senatory clinton’s being booed at the madison square garden event she received the biggest ovation of the night at the vh-1/vogue awards. when she walked onstage everyone (as far as i could tell) was on their feet and cheering.
she was definitely loved, which made me happy, for i find most ‘anti-hillary’ rhetoric to be very thinly veiled and malicious misogyny.
the night ended as it began, drunkenly. i don’t know how the awards are going to come across on the television (i’ll never find out, either, cos i don’t have the cable tv), but they were surprisingly fun in person.
ok, back to work. but before i go back to work just allow me to say how strange it is to win an award. i never, never, ever expected to have success with music, and i certainly never expected to win awards. it’s nice, but it’s bizarre, and even a bit disconcerting.
ah well, i’m sure that when my future records are released and fail miserably i won’t have to worry about being disconcerted by winning awards…ha. ha. ha…ha?
