Journal / Try This

try this (if you want to)-
look around you and try to name and number the things around you that didn’t exist 150 years ago.
lots of things, huh?
lots of things that we take for granted.
lightbulbs.
the interweb.
plastic.
alternating current domestic electricity.
refrigerators.
and so on.
think of what didn’t exist 100 years ago. or 50 years ago.
or even 25 years ago.
and then think about what might exist in 100 years that we can’t even begin to imagine.
personally i’m holding out for matter-faxes.
‘well, it only transports matter…’
i even have the perfect marketing line for the first matter-faxes:
‘the matter-fax 3000, as a ‘matter of fax’, it’s great!’

call me up in 100 years when they start marketing matter-fax machines. i’ll spearhead the marketing campaign.
it’s 5 a.m now, and i’m tired.
what else will the future bring us that we can’t even imagine right now?
genuinely fast and practical inter-planetary travel?
neural-cpu interfaces?
neural recorders?
micro-machines?
bio-machines?
giant crustacean tv personalities?
and so on. it will be great.
goodnight
