ok, on one level i understand the tribal aspect of politics. by blindly adhering to an ideologically defined group a lot of people feel a sense of comfort on an anachronistic, tribal level.
we’ve all felt that, to some extent.
but i don’t understand the allegiance or adherence to a figurative tribal entity that in no way supports the supposed pretext for said tribal allegiance.
which is why, on a very simple level, i don’t understand the mainstream, republican support for bush.
i mean, even if i were a republican and even if i took comfort and succor from the company of other republicans i would still be offended by msgr. bush.
he’s obviously done a lot of things to offend progressives.
but he’s also done a lot to offend traditional republicans.
it’s a mark of atavistic and perniciously tribal behavior that republicans support bush & co, even though they only pay lip-service to the traditional republican ideals of limited federal hegemony and fiscal conservativism.
