Journal / Travelling

hi,
we’re sitting here in traffic somewhere near milan. i’ve got the sun rising in front of me and the alps behind me, which would be quite romantic were we not inching along in rush hour traffic.
i’m on this very strange sleeping schedule wherein i go to sleep at around 9am and wake up at 5pm and i must say that one of the highlights of each day is watching the sun come up.

the strange thing, well, one of the strange things, about europe is that dawn is almost always clear and cloudless, but after the sun comes up the clouds come in and everything becomes dark and grey. so by staying up all night and going to sleep at 9am i get to see the few sort minutes wherein the sun actually shines on northern europe. or, southern europe. are we in southern europe? is milan southern europe? i never know. it’s a really lovely sunrise, nonetheless.

and now the sun is actually above the horizon, so the snow covered alps behind me are now a kind of muted orange. very pretty.

just another week left on this european tour, in theory, and then back to the states for some radio concerts. and then back and forth between america and europe throughout december.

now it’s almost fully fledged daylight, and i can see the alps very clearly. i think these are the alps, anyway. big, tall, jagged snow covered mountains between italy and switzerland. the alps, right? what army in their right mind would ever think about trying to cross these mountains? they’re like a huge, jagged, uncrossable wall of snow.
ok, time to start thinking about going to sleep.
bye for now,
