i’ve written about this before, but i feel compelled to address it again…
when a tv show (or some other similar media thingy, don’t you like my use of the word ‘thingy’? does anyone work for the o.e.d, i think that ‘thingy’ should be included in your next o.e.d) ok, when a tv show (or etc) uses my music they, for the most part, don’t have to get permission to do so.
obviously i’m not thrilled by a lot of the places that my music has shown up.
sometimes i love the way that my music is used in a film or a tv show. i loved the use of ‘bodyrock’ in the ‘ali’ trailer. i loved ‘porcelain’ in ‘the beach’. and i loved oliver stones use of my music in ‘any given sunday’, to name a few. but there are a few (more than a few) places where my music has been used that i’m not very happy about (a pro-hunting commercial????! i’m an animal rights activist! on the rush limbaugh show??? i’m pro gun-control, pro-choice, vegan, feminist, etc.).
so i just wanted to re-iterate that if you hear my music being used in something that seems really odd or out of place it’s pretty safe to say that i didn’t approve of it (although to my shame i did approve of ‘natural blues’ in ‘freddy got fingered’, but that was before i saw the movie…trust me, if i had seen the movie i would have said no. but tom green’s show was so good…why was his movie so bad? ‘freddy got fingered’ should’ve been a good, funny movie…ah well.)
ok, thanks for listening.
