Journal / the pork guys

someone was asking questions about ‘the pork guys’.
well, the pork guys is/was a punk rock band that is/was comprised of tarquin katis on guitar and vocals, paul yates on bass and vocals,
and me on drums and vocals.
we started as a sort of self-parody band, kind of mocking ourselves for being suburban punk rock kids with limited concerns, but then we realized that the songs we were writing were actually pretty good and that we really enjoyed playing them.
we did record and release one 7″ with some classic suburban punk rock songs contained therein(‘fuck christmas, fuck you’, ‘4 lights'(which was named after a star trek next gen episode…), and the appropriately named ‘7″ sellout’).
we never played much live, although we did drive to lehigh, pennsylvania to perform with some other straight edge bands.
it’s funny, apart from playing in connecticut and nyc, my touring experience with punk rock bands involves going to akron, ohio with the vatican commandoes, and going to lehigh, pennsylvania with the pork guys.
i guess i was a provincial little punk rocker.
and if you listen to the pork guys 7″ you’ll realize that the only thing that i had going for me as a drummer was my, uh, enthusiasm.
i basically just tried to play fast and noisy and tried to cover up my drumming incompetence by being as loud as possible.
