Journal / Sweet Nostalgia

that’s funny, a board-post about ray cappo.
i’ve known ray since 1982. he was in a band called ‘violent children’, and i was in ‘vatican commandoes’. we used to play together at the anthrax (i know, in hindsight it might have been inappropriately named), and pogos (named after the cartoon character, not the dance). ah, the good old days of early 80’s hardcore. back then we called it ‘slam dancing’, kids. or even the ‘h.b stomp’ (hermosa beach stomp).
sigh, sweet nostalgia. and then i hadn’t seen ray in 15 years, and one day i was in angelica’s kitchen (nyc’s premier vegan restaurant. all vegan. all organic. lovely place), and there’s ray! it turns out that his girlfriend at the time was working there, so i would see him occasionally and we would talk about shelter (his new band) and animal rights and etc. i haven’t seen him in a few years, but from what i could tell he’s still a really a wonderful guy. good old ray. good old hardcore.
go buy ‘flex your head’ and listen to void. good old void. ‘my rules’.
good old bubba. maybe i’ll go listen to my ‘out of step’ minor threat 7 inch.
it’s on red vinyl. one of my prized possessions. like i said, sweet nostalgia.
funny, i bought grandmaster flash’s ‘the message’ and minor threats ‘out of step’ on the same day in 1982.
and all of the old ctxhc bands. seizure, cia, young republicans, chronic disorder (hi chuck), reflex from pain, etc, etc.
it was a really fun time. ‘everybodys out on the street, moby sneaks in the back for free’ -“”bombscare at pogo’s””, courtesy of the vatican commandoes.
thanks,
