ok, here’s one of the most ‘spinal tap’ moments that i’ve had in my professional life so far…our hotel in mexico city is literally across the street from the venue where we’ve been playing.
we’ve been in the intercontinental hotel and we’ve been performing at the national auditorium (which is a beautiful venue, by the way).
and for some reason (security, probably) we drove to the venue tonight, even though it’s right across the street.
so we leave the hotel, and to avoid traffic we go down a side street.
then a few more side streets, then get stuck in traffic, then another side street, and then we’re in front of the hotel again. then we go down another side street. and a few more side streets, and, oh look!, there’s the hotel again. then we go down, yes, a few more side streets, and finally get to the venue, thirty minutes after we’d left the hotel.
yes. it took us thirty minutes to drive 300 yards (100 meters).
if someone makes ‘spinal tap, mach 2’ they should include this scene. kind of like ‘hello cleveland’ but taken to a whole new level.
i still had a wonderful time performing in mexico city. the audiences here are wonderful.
i just wish that my spanish was better.
deseo hablar espanol mas mejor que puedo hablar espanol ahora.
si. es la verdad.
