sorry, a political journal entry…
but nothing too heavy, just a few small observations.
with bush’s poll ratings at an all time low you’d think that the republicans would make an effort to make themselves a bit warmer and fuzzier.
so what do they do?
they nominate a candidate for the supreme court who believes that women should get their husbands approval before getting an abortion, and they vote to open up the alaskan national wildlife refuge for oil drilling.
if this is what republicans do when they’re trying to boost their poll ratings and improve their image with the public, what would they do if they didn’t care about poll ratings or image issues…
eat babies on prime time tv?
pee on homeless people?
take off their human wigs and reveal the horns beneath?

and bush’s poll ratings are utterly abysmal.
61 percent of americans think that he’s doing a bad job and that he’s deceitful and unethical.
70 percent of americans disapprove of the bush administrations handling of ethical issues.
68 percent of americans believe that the country is off course and heading in the wrong direction.

it’s safe to say that any and all republicans who are up for re-election in 2006 are looking at these numbers and are having sweaty, sleepless nights.
the republicans had been using bush as their ‘let’s get re-elected’ posterchild, and now they’re seeing him as a bumbling, inept, deeply loathed, political liability.
so it’ll be interesting to see how the next couple of months pan out, especially as rove might finally get served some indictments, bill frist might get indicted,
tom delay’s looking at more possible indictments, etc.
if there are any smart republicans out there they would start demanding a clean-up in the white house and also start distancing themselves from the more loathsome aspects of the right-wing agenda.
