would someone please remind gw bush that his stated reason for invading iraq was that they had weapons of mass destruction?
he is now, and has been for over a year, been saying that the reason he authorized hostilites against iraq was to remove saddam hussein from power.
but before the war in iraq he never mentioned that, and he and cheney and rumsfeld and wolfowitz et. al. only ever talked about how iraq had weapons of mass destruction.
which they didn’t.
and now he’s criticizing democrats and the media for saying that he misled the u.s and the world by stating that iraq had weapons of mass destruction.
he’s saying that many people on the left supported the war in iraq.
well, could that be because the democrats and the media had been given the doctored intelligence that the bush administration had cherry-picked and manipulated?
if you’re a senator and your commander in chief says ‘this country has weapons of mass destruction’, you’re going to be inclined to believe your commander in chief. no one would, at least up until recently, assume that the executive branch would systematically and aggressively manipulate intelligence to rush a country to war.
presidents have lied in the past. and politicians have misled people in the past.
but the way in which the bush administration misled and deceived the world community in the lead up to the war in iraq is unprecedented and grotesque.
our president and his administration doctored and manipulated and suppressed intelligence in order to justify their rush to wage war in iraq.
the truth will continue to come out, whether the administration accepts it or not.
