why hasn’t anyone in the media asked this simple question:
‘if george bush is so keen on democracy in the middle east, then why aren’t his biggest allies in the middle east(pakistan, saudi arabia) democracies?’
and why, apart from israel, has u.s foreign policy never promoted democracy in the middle east, and why has u.s foreign policy been much more concerned with quasi-stability in the middle east even if it’s meant supporting brutal autocracies?
wouldn’t it be refreshing if gwbush just came out and said, ‘ok, you’re right, it’s oil. we love oil. cheney and i used to run oil companies and our biggest contributors are oil companies and we don’t give a shit about democracy anywhere, really, we just love oil.’
