the video for clinic is so lovely. and the song is so lovely, too. can i tell you how much i enjoy making ‘senor mobys’? ok, let me tell you. i really enjoy making ‘senor mobys’.
wait. has this episode already been broadcast? the last episode was the one from the olympics, right? or am i mistaken? i’m always the last to know.
i’ve spent the weekend in new york. it’s been nice. yesterday, saturday, a friend and i went to brunch (kates joint in nyc, the most wonderful vegan brunch in the city. have the vegan french toast and the unsausage. dee-lightful)and then we went with her dog(‘pineapple’)to the tompkins square dog run and sat in the sun(it was like summer, very warm, t-shirt weather)and watched the dogs. there was this one crazy dog who ran in circles chasing his tail and barking for at least 20 minutes. he must have canine spongiform encephalitis or something. nutty dog. very entertaining, though.
the dog run has become very popular. maybe i should take some small part of the blame, cos i wrote a little piece on it for the new york times a few months ago. and they had just changed the cedar chips, so it didn’t smell too much like dog pee.
and today i went over to damian’s house and he showed me the paintings that he’s been working on as of late. very, very impressive work. when they see his new work the critics who in the past have been dismissive of damian and his work will be forced to concede that he really is a remarkable painter. his next shows have the potential to be really, really great.
unfortunately for the rest of you his shows won’t be until march of 2003. but i’m lucky. i get tosee the work now(sorry, i’m gloating, i know that’s very distasteful. it shan’t happen again. mea culpa) and it really is shaping up to be wonderfulwork. there’s this one painting that he’s just finished of a car driving through a sunny bit of woods that is really special.
damian might be a curmudgeon and a shut-in, but he’s a genuinely gifted artist. and i know that over time even the people who have criticized him will come to see just how talented he is.
now it’s time for me to pack, cos i have to go visit radio stations tomorrow.
