Journal / Self-Involvedly Yours

someone sent me a list of people’s favorite moby songs(yes, i just referred to myself in the 3rd person, and yes, referring to one-self in the 3rd person is creepy, so i guess that makes me creepy. eh, so be it. or rather, i guess that makes moby creepy. again, eh, so be it)and i thought that i’d write down my own list of my favorite of my songs.
this might seem odd, i dunno, but i thought it would give you an insight into which of my songs are my favorites.
here goes, in no specific order(not including songs from ‘hotel’, cos it hasn’t been released yet, so to include songs from ‘hotel’ wouldn’t make sense cos a lot of people haven’t heard it yet)

so if i were to make a tape(do people still make tapes?)of my favorite of my own songs they would be:

god moving over the face of the waters
face it
the great escape
my weakness
memory gospel
when it’s cold i’d like to die
nearer
at least we tried
now i let it go
alone
honest love
inside
running
soft

that would be a start, at least. and maybe it’s odd for me to be self-involved and make a list of my favorite of my own songs, but i thought that perhaps it would be interesting to know which music the musician likes.
and, for what it’s worth, ‘animal rights’ is my favorite of all of the records that i’ve made, especially ‘face it’. in fact i would possibly say that ‘face it’ is the best song i’ve ever written and recorded,
but that’s just me, and perhaps i’m not the best judge of my own music, as ‘animal rights’ is far and away the worst selling of all of my records(’18’ sold more copies in portugal than ‘animal rights’ sold worldwide, for example) and there are probably only a handful of people in the world who’ve ever actually listened far enough into ‘animal rights’ to have ever even heard ‘face it’.
so if you’re curious as to why i think ‘face it’ is the best song i’ve ever recorded why not give it a listen(be warned, it’s 10 minutes long, and i do presumptuously believe that you have to listen to the whole song for it to make sense…)and let me know what you think?
self-involvedly yours,
moby
