Journal / Russia

and now we leave russia….
goodbye mother russia.
someday i want to come back and actually spend more time here.
russia is without question one of the most fascinating countries in the world.
just look at russian history:
from tolstoy to stalin, dostoyevsky to putin, peter the great to yeltsin.
100 years ago russia was an aristocratic serfdom, with over 90% of the population living as peasants.
then it became a soviet superpower, and the anvil upon which the wehrmacht was destroyed.
now, if i might be so presumptuous, it’s a country looking for identity. looking west, looking east, looking outwards, looking inwards.
i would love to come back to russia and spend more time here and get to know the people better and get to know the land better and get to know the history better.
it’s interesting that russia is often seen as a bear.
because bears can be angry and hostile, but more often than not bears are solitary creatures that tend to their own business.
ok, time to go to kiev, which should also be fascinating, especially as i’ve never been to the ukraine before.
