Journal / Roof Tops

the rain is falling on my skylights, which is nice.
another march day, which seems somehow charming as seen through the benefit of skylights. nyc in the winter used to depress me considerably. now with a bright home i find that i don’t get as depressed in the winter time. i often wonder why more homes don’t have skylights. why does your average american home have an attic below the roof? shouldn’t the roof be used as outdoor space with skylights? like corbusiers ‘machine for living’? why have a peaked roof that just sits on top of your house? the top of the house should be a garden with skylights. a little rooftop oasis.
the ‘peaked roof’ standard makes no sense to me, unless you live in a place that gets 30 feet of snow a year.

before moving to my current home i never knew how nice it was to have a roof that i can go hang out on (sorry for the dangling participle.).

my advice today: skylights. usable roof-tops. rooftops are so cool. and if you’re ever attacked you can pour boiling oil on your attackers from your aerie, like in the good old days of the middle ages. (note: my suggestion to pour boiling oil on someone attacking your home was purely facetious. boiling oil should never be poured on anyone. just wanted to clear that up.)

wow, i just keep going to bed later and later. it’s 8.30a.m and i’m not even sleepy. at some point i’m going to have to try to get slightly back on a normal-ish schedule (if for no other reason than going to sleep when it’s dark outside, which is something that i haven’t experienced in ages).
bye for now,
moby
