and speaking of heaven 17, i think that there are some sorely overlooked bands in the hipster quest to find new-wave bands who might still be nice to listen to. so here’s an incomplete list of new-wave bands who have been overlooked as of late and are still nice to listen to:

the first 5 simple minds albums
the first 4 omd albums
the first 2 psychedelic furs albums
theater of hate
killing joke (the first 4 albums)

the first 3 echo & the bunnymen albums
the first 3 devo albums (not exactly overlooked, actually, but still great)
the first 4 talking heads albums
daf (deutsche americanische freundschaft)
the feelies
the bongos
the chameleons
the wild swans
the first album by a certain ratio (sort of rediscovered. i heard ‘shack up’ the other night at lit, so i guess that someone has rediscovered them)
see, lots of new-wave bands and albums have been rediscovered by the hipsters and the cognoscenti. but the bands and albums listed above have yet to be rediscovered (for the most part). and they deserve to be rediscovered because they’re great.
