Journal / random things:

a-the ‘new york new york’ video is on the homepage of youtube. if you still haven’t seen it, well, it’s there. and you can see my AWESOME breakdancing skills(keeping in mind that i couldn’t breakdance to save my life. it’s, as i’ve said, a breakdancing double. sorry
to ruin the illusion).
b-aforementioned song ‘new york new york’ is for sale on itunes in the uk. just fyi.
c-i have to go to the dentist again today. i know: sexy and exciting and the fun never stops here in glamorous new york.
d-i think that i’ve written ‘new york’ more times in this blog(i still hate that word)than ever before.
e-i finally saw ‘team america’. you know, ‘bigger longer and uncut’ is one of my favorite movies of all time, but ‘team america’ just seemed a bit flat. i did like the generic rapport between the americans, and the sex scene was good, but it just didn’t seem to be as good/funny as the southpark movie. i know, everyone’s a critic. and poor hans blix…fed to a shark.
f-after reading that review i realized that i absolutely have no business reviewing movies. my review reminded me of ‘reading rainbow’ reviews by 9 year olds, ‘this is a great book about horses. one horse even jumped a fence. if you like horses, this book is for you.’
g-that’s it. time to go gird my loins and prepare for battle in the dentists chair.
h-fuck, i really hate the dentist. why am i cursed with soft and crappy teeth?
oh, that’s right, inbreeding.
have a good day,

random things:

1-have a nice weekend. there. that’s simple. but heartfelt. odd expression, ‘heartfelt’. not as odd as ‘pick your brain’ or ‘keep my eye out for you’. those are kind of disgusting.

2-if you’re coming to either one of the ‘jonathan ames and moby variety show'(s) on may 30th at ars nova we’d like to ask that you dress nicely…we’re going to be taping both shows for tv and we sort of want the show to feel as if it’s from 1954. so please wear cocktail attire(dark suits for men, dark dresses for women).

3-i’m excited to dj at nublu. it’s such a tiny place, but it’s definitely my favorite venue in nyc. i love that whenever you go there you have no idea what you’ll get. the last time i was there the music was alternately provided by a dub reggae dj who also played brazilian funk and house music and a band who sounded like esg.

hopefully i’ll see you at nublu and then at ars nova. i should make it a rule to only play at venues with interesting names that sound like they could be venues from the science fiction future which we all know and love even if we won’t live to see it because of the melting ice caps and whatnot.

random things:

1-i saw the movie ‘why we fight’ last night. it’s a great movie, made by a very smart director. i highly recommend it. even if i don’t really know how to spell ‘recommend’. is it ‘reccomend’? no. the double consonants screw me up.

2-i’m not very good at bowling. i also went bowling last night. and here’s my issue with bowling: you can knock 8 or 9 pins down every time and still only get an 80 or 90 as your final score. knocking 8 or 9 pins down every time means that you’re a pretty good bowler, right? well, i don’t always knock 8 or 9 pins down. like i said, i’m not very good at bowling. i’m just rambling.
and the bowling alley in port authority is the best bowling alley in nyc.
it’s inexpensive and not crowded.

3-can you think of a better name than ‘stewie’? ok, maybe i won’t name my first child ‘stewie’, but there’s a good chance that my next dog will be named ‘stewie’. i assume that there will be a lot of dogs and cats named ‘stewie’, as he is the voice of a generation.

4-‘why we fight’ is really good. just a reminder.

5-the weather’s broken in nyc again. someone should tell the superintendent. i think that his name is andy. or rob. i’m not sure. there’ve been some personnel changes lately.

6-i don’t mind being bald, but sometimes i think that it would be nice to have hair.

7-i’m also not very good at chess. i love to play chess, but i’m sub-par at best. i think it’s cos i get impatient.

8-the american museum of natural history is the best place in nyc. you should go there soon. especially the rooms with all of the animal bones.

ok, that’s it.

Journal / Random Things

ok,
a few random things.
one: months and months ago my friend laura and i were talking and we agreed that the outcome of this election hinges upon motivating the parties respective bases.
sure, ‘swinging’ voters is important. but getting your base to turn out is how you win an election in a narrowly divided electorate.
it’s nice that the pundits have finally caught up with laura and i…
sorry if that sounds pompous, but it’s true.
two: halloween in new york is great. tonight i’ve seen:
a-at least 7 ‘slashes'(from g-n-r)
b-lots of drunk women with sagging vinyl wings
c-lots of drunk people in general.
d-at least 15 people who’ve said ‘you look just like moby’. it’s nice to make no effort and have a quasi-costume…
e-2 people in carrot suits.
f-1 grape(who works with me).

and i’m left with the following judgemental judgement…
‘a wig does not a costume make’

sure, a wig is nice. but a costume must involve more than just a wig.
ok, goodnight.

Journal / Random Things

went and saw the flying foxes at 7 a.m.
most of them were sleeping. they sleep upside down, clinging to tree branches with their big wings wrapped around their bodies.
but a few were soaring around. and i think that a bunch of them were squeaking at each other.
i might go back this evening to see them fly around.

some random things:
the first 3 devo albums are so good. i had forgotten just how good they were. they’re very good. ‘duty now for the future’ is a very special, often overlooked, album.
i’m addicted to this ‘gorilla munch’ cereal. ok, it’s organic cereal for kids, but i’ve been eating quite a lot of it as of late.
i did a tv show with will smith last night. i think he’s one of the funniest people i’ve ever seen.

that’s it for now. at 5:30 pm this evening my 5 month long promo trip is scheduled to end. i’m giddy with excitement.
now watch, i’ll probably get hit by a bus at 5:34.

more random things:
1-the refrigerator magnets are up on my fridge and they look great.
thanks!
2-people who are really good at karaoke intimidate me.
3-it’s still very hot here.
4-my neighbor put a ceramic owl on his roof. it’s staring at me and i feel like special agent dale cooper.
5-i wish i could see ‘mulholland drive’ as the tv show it was intended to be.
6-when nyc is very hot it feels unlike any other very hot place in the world.
or at least any other very hot place that i’ve ever been to.
7-i hope that our fine representatives in the senate realize that voting for opening up the anwr for oil exploitation is a bad idea.
8-it’s time to go to the airport.

random things:
1-what is an ’emoticon’? what a cool name. like a roman prefect or something.
2-i don’t post on the boards, but i do read them. a few people have claimed to be me. they’re not, for what it’s worth. i even think that someone (a quasi-acquaintance) signed up with the sole intention of pretending to be me. flattering. but disconcerting, too.
3-i appreciate the absurd and random quality of the ‘general’ posts.
4-donkeys, monkeys, honkeys. explain.
