so, as most of us know, our president, george w., has gone on a month long vacation.
now there’s nothing inherently wrong with going on a month long vacation, except for the fact that there are so many profoundly important things going on that would seem to require presidential attention.
1-bush’s tax cut and increases in government spending are founded upon fiscal projections that are proving to be erroneous. the budget surplus that he was hoping for isn’t going to happen. his budget is going to push us into huge deficits. this would seem to require some attention.
2-the situation in israel is worsening by the day. this, too, would seem to require some presidential attention.
3-macedonia is teetering on the brink of civil war. some presidential attention here might not be such a bad thing.
4-worker productivity in the united states was projected to be increasing at an annual rate of 3-4%. in the first quarter of this year it was up by 0.1%. the ramifications of a slowdown in productivity growth are huge.
5-german unemployment has increased for the seventh month in a row. this might be indicative of a european recession. and etc.
the last time i checked, being the president of the united states was supposed to be a full time job.
