ok, i know that some of the people who visit moby.com are educators/teachers.
i have a thought for you…
why isn’t a ‘practical life skills’ class a part of any contemporary educational curriculum?
did i spell ‘curriculum’ incorrectly?
i get so screwed up by double consonants.
but really, wouldn’t it make sense to have a mandatory class for high school seniors that taught basic life skills like:
what is a 401-k and what are different types of investments?
how do i rent/buy an apartment/home?
what is an h.m.o?
how do i write a resumee?
etc.
wouldn’t this make sense?
i had a good education, but a lot of what i learned(memorizing the periodic table of the elements, calculus, etc)i forgot within 10 minutes of leaving high-school(sorry…it’s true).
it just seems that having a class wherein students learn basic adult-life-skills might be a good thing, no?
