porter goss, the republican head of the cia, resigned abruptly today.
at present the media are reporting just that, that he resigned abruptly.
but a few friends of mine from dc have told me that the rumor is that he’s resigning because it was discovered that he had accepted prostitutes from lobbyists when he was a republican member of the house of representatives.
i don’t know.
i feel sleazy even writing this, but it comes from fairly reliable sources.
it’s probably not true, but if it is true it’s just another gigantic problem
for the republicans and the bush administration.
i was talking to a friend of mine today and i had to explain that my problems with the bush administration and the republican leadership have mainly to do with their ineptitude, corruption, and hypocrisy, and not with any inherent aversion to party labels or party loyalty.
i would certainly be more likely to support a smart and experienced and decent republican than a dumb, inept, and corrupt democrat.
the problem being that the majority of republicans in power in the u.s today seem to be inept and corrupt and hypocritical.
and their ineptitude, corruption, and hypocrisy seem to go far beyond the ineptitude, corruption, and hypocrisy that we normally associate with politicians.
i do wish that the democrats were better at shaping and promoting their agenda.
the dem agenda seems pretty unassailable: pro-environment, pro-education, pro-security, pro-economic growth, etc.
but unfortunately the dems usually just stand on the side-lines and take swipes at the republicans.
maybe in the next 6 months, before the mid-term elections, we’ll see a re-invigorated democratic party who might actually take steps towards promoting a sane and progressive agenda, rather than just standing on the side-lines and pointing fingers.
