Journal / ok, now it’s time for a slightly longer journal entry.

ok, now it’s time for a slightly longer journal entry.
once again: i loathe the word ‘blog’. just a reminder.
in case you were wondering.
i just got back from l.a.
ok, i lie. i got back last night. i lied. when i said ‘i just got back’, i was just trying to sound cool.
‘just got back’ sounds rushed and busy.
‘got back last night’ makes me sound lazy and procrastinating.
and today i did a photo shoot for urb’s 15 year anniversary issue.
urb was the first magazine to ever put me on their cover, in 1991.
so it felt nice and poignant to do the 15 year anniversary photo shoot today.
i guess that a lot of artists are taking place in this photo shoot.
today it was carlos from interpol, armand van helden, questlove from the roots, jean grae, and me.
it was nice. a nice bunch of people. conviviality. bonhommie. etc.
and l.a was great. i know that some people loathe l.a, but i love it. it was warm. the people were nice. things were accomplished.
fun was had.
it was great.
i am simple.
and i saw the current version of the new richard kelly movie, ‘southland tales’, and it’s remarkable.
some people will love it, and some will hate it. it’s not going to be a movie that allows for ambivalence or indifference.
and it’s safe to say that almost no one who sees it will be able to say what it’s about.
i love it, and i’m really happy to be working on it and helping out with the music.
and, non-sequiturily, we’re going to launch a slightly new version of moby.com soon.
ok, by ‘new version’ i mean ‘we’re putting a new picture up as the home/splash page’.
the ‘hotel’ cover picture was starting to look a bit old. it’s a nice picture, but it’s been up there for almost a year, so it’s time to move on and put up some other pictures.
maybe we’ll even have music on the home page.
i’ll have to ask rob if that’s possible.
it must be possible, right?
i’ll ask.
next non-sequitur: when i was in l.a i watched the new sarah silverman tv pilot and went to see her do stand-up at the improv.
she’s amazing. i hope that her pilot gets turned into a tv show. it’s really funny. i’m now officially(ok, i’m not really going to do this, it’s just a gesture of enthusiasm)starting the ‘lower east side sarah silverman fan club’.
i can’t think of a funnier person alive in the u.s today.
she’s like our 21st century lenny bruce(minus the penis, heroin addiction, court transcript obsession, etc).
speaking of lenny, have you ever seen ‘lenny’?
it’s one of the best movies ever made.
bob fosse is/was hollywood’s most underappreciated writer/director.
he made ‘lenny’, ‘all that jazz’, ‘star 80’ and ‘cabaret’.
all amazing movies.
he and sarah silverman are my heroes for today.
‘star 80’ is an amazing and overlooked movie. it’s incredibly disturbing, but amazing.
ok, i’ve rambled enough.
goodnight,
moby
