ok, i have to write about politics again.
i know. i know. the writing about politics gets tedious.
i know.
well, actually i don’t know. see, i’m kind of a news/politics junkie(better than being the other kind of junkie, right? or as homer says, ‘i’m like a choco-holic, except for alcohol’. well, that doesn’t actually apply at all. i just love that simpsons line). and american politics are particularly exciting at present.
again, ‘exciting’ from a ‘the right wing are falling apart and the hubris and ineptitude of the bush administration are finally coming home to roost’ perspective.
i imagine that the neo-cons and the extreme right are not seeing these times as particularly ‘exciting’. more like ‘utterly devastating’.
to recap:
bill frist possibly to be indicted over sec violations and insider trading.
tom delay fending off multiple indictments.
rove and libby(and maybe even cheney?) about to be indicted(or so it seems).
harriet miers alienating not only the right-wing, but now also the left.
the situation in iraq degenerating by the day.
bush’s approval rating at an all time low(his approval rating among african americans is at 2%, with a +/- margin of error of 3%…so theoretically his approval rating among african americans could be at -1%….).
bush creating the largest federal government and the largest federal deficit in history.
and so on, and so on.
i’m kind of on pins and needles to see what happens to rove and libby.
they’ll probably get off with a slap on the wrist, but it’s still exciting to fantasize about rove, libby, and cheney getting indicted.
and apparently joseph wilson is going to sue bush, cheney, et. al. while they’re all still in the white house, because the republicans under clinton passed legislation stating that it’s ok to file civil suits against the executive branch, even while they’re in power.
again, hubris and ineptitude coming home to roost.
the sad/funny thing with the plame/wilson/cheney/rove/libby/miller/novak/fitzgerald/etc affair is that no one has for a second suggested that bush knew anything about it.
the assumption among all parties is that bush has next to nothing to do with the actual running of the white house(and country), so he probably knew nothing about cheney/rove/libby illegally ‘outing’ a covert cia agent.
and i don’t expect anything terribly positive to come from all of this, as the democrats are still sort of cowering in the wings, afraid to do just about anything other than snipe and complain.
personally i think that a ‘democratic contract with america’ might be a good idea.
a democrat manifesto stating what the democrats are for(strong national defense, a strong economy, education, health care, worker training, a rational tax code, a healthy environment, etc), and not just what they’re against(bush, republicans).
the democrats need to stand for something, and not just complain about republicans and pander to their base.
that’s the only thing missing here, an energized and pro-active democratic party.
ok, time for bed.
goodnight,
moby
