ok, architecture and citrus.
2 pictures of a beautiful craftsman house, and 2 pictures of people cleaning and cutting up oranges.
first: i was driving down a random street on a random day in hollywood and i saw this perfect little craftsman house so i decided to stop illegally and take some pictures.
i love this particular craftsman house because the japanese influence is so clear and apparent.
it's in the middle of hollywood, but it sort of kind of looks as if it could be in/on hokkaido.
ok, in the spirit of full disclosure: i've never been to hokkaido.
i was just trying to sound worldly.
i do know that there's a pumpkin called the 'hokkaido pumpkin'.
and i think that tadao ando has built some great buildings in hokkaido.
but again, i was just trying to sound fancy in referencing a place (hokkaido) to which i've never been.

and, second: pictures of people washing and cutting up oranges.
see, bill pullman and his amazing wife have been instrumental in setting up the hollywood orchard:

and saturday they had their first: 'pick'n kitchen'.
basically people went around the neighborhood and gathered up ripe fruit (1,500 pounds gathered!) and brought
it back to the pullman's and made juice and dehydrated oranges and all sorts of other things.
you know, typical gritty, urban activities (to be clear: this sentence is me being facetious, as it was neither gritty nor typically urban, as evidenced below).
it was a really nice day, just neighbors picking and gathering and juicing fruit from the neighborhood.

so, hokkaido inspired craftsman house and hollywood orchard 'pick'n kitchen'.

thanks,
moby
