for years now my friend damian and i have gone to crowded parties and nightclubs and sat across the street from their entrances and watched people wait in line and mill about and get in fights (and use run on sentences) and flirt and etc.
we learned a long time ago that if it’s a nice night it’s almost always more fun and educational to be outside of a nightclub/party than to be on the inside.
you should try this sometime. you’ll see, it’s fun. and you can learn a lot about the human condition by watching people queue ( i don’t know how to spell that word) up to go into a crowded, hot, noisy, unpleasant place.
the two strange ironies about nightclubs/parties, for me, are:
a: the people waiting in line to get into a club/party are basically the same people who are inside. so why not just enjoy the company of these same people outside the bar/party and not inside, where you’ll be forced to buy overpriced drinks and breathe other peoples hot stinky smoke?
b: imagine trying to pay someone to stand around in a nasty, hot, smelly, smoky, crowded environment for 4 hours. how many people would do this for money? but if you treat that same person like shit and ask them to pay for the privilege of standing in a nasty, hot, smelly, smoky, crowded place they’ll jump at the chance.
i thus conclude that we’re all masochists.
good night,
moby
