new york (ap) — if the presidential election were held today sen. john kerry would have a slight edge over president bush.

a new poll released by newsweek shows 49 percent of voters would choose kerry compared to the 46 percent who would vote for bush.

it also found that 52 percent of those polled would not like to see president bush serve a second term. only 44 percent want to see bush win again in november.

kerry isn’t the only democrat polling better against bush. wesley clark gets 47 percent of voters compared to 48 percent for bush.
former democratic front-runner howard dean fares the worst with 45 percent versus bushs 50 percent.
