Journal / My Weekend

you wanna hear about my weekend?
ok.
saturday i worked on music and rode my bicycle and had breakfast at teany.
i also went to see ‘finding nemo’. very good, but not as sublime as ‘monsters inc.'(don’t you just love an erudite discussion about highbrow culture?).
then saturday night i went to see roxy music who were great, but then i’m sure that many of you know that as a life-long roxy music fan they can do no wrong in my eyes.
they didn’t play ‘the thrill of it all’, but that’s ok cos they opened with ‘remake-remodel’ which was fantastic.
then i went to veg city diner and had their vegan open faced turkey sandwich (which tastes nothing like turkey but which is great).
and then yesterday i went upstate to my cousin ben’s 21st birthday.
21?!
yikes.
i remember when he was a new born. and now he’s 21 and playing in a rock band (base 2, who are very good).
they grow up so fast…sniff. sniff.
and i learned how to play ‘beer pong’ with ben’s friends.
it turns out that i have a natural ability when it comes to beer pong.
which is good.
you throw ping-pong balls into cups containing beer. i believe it’s a drinking game that was invented by the round-table set at the algonquin in the 30’s.
and that was my weekend.
thanks for listening.

Journal / My Weekend

ok, here’s my weekend in a nutshell:
friday evening:
played 2 games of scrabble with a bunch of friends. i lost the first game badly, but came in 2nd for the 2nd game. so my ego was bruised but not destroyed.
then went to luxx in williamsburg to see rene risquee perform (you need to see rene risquee. he/they are outstanding).
then went to a bar on crosby street where i watched my friends drink and flirt shamelessly with strange europeans.
then went to my friend cramer’s house where a bunch of us sat up until 3 in the morning playing guitar and singing classic rock songs (‘rock of ages’ by def leppard, ‘night moves’ by bob seger, etc).
all in all a nice and enjoyable evening.

then saturday i went with my friends johan and lina to see morris day and the time. which, needless to say, made me feel like i was living in the end of ‘jay and silent bob strike back’. and needless to say, ‘jay and silent bob strike back’ is one of the finest movies ever made.
morris day and the time were great. especially the comedy. and the ‘bird’ dance. to put it in old, jaded show-biz terms; they have a good schtick.
and new york has been mercifully warm (well, ‘warm’ by 2003 standards, today was 40 degrees fahrenheit and it felt like lovely, bucolic spring time) as of late.
and i leave for l.a and new zealand and australia and singapore and hong kong and mexico city in a few days. which is nice, cos all of those aforementioned places will, most likely, be warm.
i would invite you to play scrabble with my friends and i, but we’re merciless, and you might get scarred (and/or scared. you only get one extra point for ‘scarred’, unless it pushes you into a better place, score-wise). yeah, that’s how i define and establish my street cred, being a bad-ass scrabble player.
do ‘flaxen’ on a triple-word score with ‘f’ on the double letter score, then you shall know the scrabble way, grasshopper.
i’m such a geek.
