Journal / My Week

oh, come on…
on wednesday i get beaten up in boston.
on friday i get harrassed by some heavy metal fans.
and then saturday rolls around. a flight to l.a through turbulent, typhoon-ish weather. then i get to the relative safety and sanctuary of my hotel.
and guess what (and i kid you not)…eminem is in my hotel shooting a music-video.
fuck.
what are the chances?
so in the interest of personal security and whatnot i’ve moved hotels, just to be on the safe side. cos then i find out that eminem is having a party on the roof of said hotel after the video shoot is over. and i really don’t want to encounter 20 drunk eminem friends/well-wishers at 2 in the morning as i’m heading out for a stroll around the neighborhood. call me paranoid, call me a woosie, but i’d rather err on the side of non-confrontationalism.
so now i’m at a nice hotel by the ocean and getting ready to fly back to nyc for a few months of cloistered music-making, and i went disco bowling tonight with some friends and there’s nothing like disco bowling to make you forget your concerns. you should try it. especially when people are drinking bud-light in bowling-pin shaped bottles. i’m personally all in favor of drink containers that somehow reflect the circumstances in which they’re served. microphone shaped bottles at rock concerts. surfboard shaped bottles at the beach. pen shaped bottles at aclu conventions. and so on.
for our non-american friends, the aclu is the ‘american civil libertiesunion.’
a legal rights organization that protects the basic constitutional rights of all american citizens (and non) of which i’m a very proud member and supporter.
in these times wherein the government somehow feels compelled to whittle away at our constitutional rights i feel even more driven to support organizations such as the aclu. ‘people for the american way’ are another great organization, even if they have a truly unfortunate name. they’re not some right-wing think tank, they’re actually very left wing and proactive.
ok, goodnight.
i hope that you had a nice weekend.
try disco bowling with friends. while supporting the aclu. you’ll see, it’ll work wonders.
