so i spent my thanksgiving:
a-in transit
b-with my family in connecticut
c-walking around the lower east side listening to songs that i’ll hopefully be putting on my next record.
to break it down a bit…
a-in transit. a taxi to grand central station. a quick look at grand central station which had 20 minute waits in the ticket line and 15 minute waits at the platform made me realize that i would spend thanksgiving waiting in line if i stayed in grand central. so, being foolish and bourgeoisie, i got a taxi from nyc to connecticut.
yup, a $200 taxi ride. kind of like going from tokyo to narita. if i hadn’t splurged, though, i would’ve missed thanksgiving with my…
b-family in connecticut. so, thanksgiving was spent with my 4 cousins, my 4 aunts and uncles, my stepfather, my cousins husband and new baby, and a few old friends of the family. and the tv stayed off except for ‘king of the hill’ and ‘the simpsons’. and i got to run around in the woods with james, my aunt and uncles dog. james is a giant german shepherd who thinks that he’s a little lap dog.
so we played for a long time in the woods.
hopefully i didn’t get any little lyme disease infested deer ticks joining me on the trip back to nyc, where i’ve just spent the last few hours…
c-walking around the l.e.s listening to music that i might include on the next record.
i’ve ‘road tested’ all of my records walking around the lower east side. and i’m always tempted to name a record after some of the amazing old jewish and spanish stores in the lower east side. ‘luz y vida’ was a contender for the last cd. and ‘discount candy’ has always had a nice ring to it. ‘new pasteur vietnamese’ is kind of cool.(yup, i think it’s supposed to be ‘new pasture’, or who knows , maybe there’s a strange cult of vietnamese people worshipping the people who invented pasteurization.) ‘new hope’ chinese restaurant sounds encouraging. ‘gracefully’ food stores. ‘funky broome’ chinese restaurant has a nice disco-y ring to it.
and now i’m home. it’s cold out. a nice, clean, crisp cold. no moon in the sky. just a good old nyc cold early winter night. and tonight i even turned on my heat for the first time this season. i wonder if my natural gas comes from russia? they seem to have a lot of it.
happy thanksgiving everybody,
moby
