ok, i have a minor complaint…
you know what annoys me just a little, tiny bit? when i do interviews and journalists assume that i sample everything. now please let it be known that i’m not consumed with issues of authenticity, but i only sample some vocals and some percussion. if you hear music, it’s me, moby, aka-little idiot, playing the music.
piano, drums, guitar, etc. it’s me. just me.
strings? me.
organ? me.
electric piano/synth/etc? me.
sorry, this is petulant and common. yes, i know. but i’ve done some interviews wherein the journalist asks: ‘so where did you sample the piano from?’ and i, being petulant and common want to scream at them ‘ive been playing guitar and drums and piano since i was 10 years old! i didn’t sample them! i played them!’
ok, i’m glad we’ve had this little session. i’m feeling much better thank you.
and if you’re a journalist and if you ask me ‘where do you sample your music from?’ and if i throw at chair or table at your head, please don’t be surprised at my petulant, common, and unrefined vitriol.
i’m common. and simple. and i can’t help but being a self-involved wanky musician. ok, i guess that issues of authenticity do concern me to an extent….
thank you,
moby
