Journal / MTV Cribs & Books

i haven’t seen ‘mtv cribs’ yet. but then someone who works at mtv told me a dirty secret about me, vis a vis the show…and the dirty little secret is that i’m the only person who’s been profiled on cribs who had books in their apartment. i was asking someone at mtv, ‘so, what sort of books do the other people whom you’ve profiled have in their homes?’ to which i was given the answer that they’ve done ‘cribs’ profiles on 30 or so people, and none of them had any books.
ah, musicians…the proud, the few, the functionally illiterate…

i have to admit that my bookshelf is filled with really pretentious nonsense, however. i need some more fun books. i’ve got a few books on the history of the plague in the middle ages, and lots of bertolt brecht, and tolstoy’s journals, and tennessee williams, but i think i need some fun books. i’m sorely missing:
‘where the wild things are’
anything by dr. seuss
curious george
etc.
i do have the harry potter books, and this great series called ‘the big book off…’
the ‘big books’ are great. famous cartoonists writing/drawing about a variety of subjects. ‘the big book of death’ is probably the best one. if you can find it you should buy it. i think it might be out of print.
and i have ‘the complete guide to the simpsons’, which kind of goes without saying.

i’m in l.a now getting ready for the grammy’s, etc. i love it here…
sigh.

p.s-i watched ‘almost famous’ on the plane. i love that movie. it’s so sweet.
