Journal / Measured Ways

i have to admit that the calls for revenge that are emanating from certain quarters of the united states are troubling me. we’ve all been hurt by this, and we would all like to see justice meted out on whoever is responsible, but any rash and bombastic reaction will, in the long run, end up causing more harm than good, or so i believe.
i live in new york. if we rabidly attack the islamic world then there’s a better than likely chance that new york and washington will probably suffer from further terrorist attacks.
i understand the frustration and anger that most americans are feeling right now. i share those feelings. but, in my opinion, we must respond wisely and with discretion.

i would personally love to see the u.s respond with dignity and nobility and wisdom.
and of course we must respond, but the litmus test for any response on the part of nato and the united states should be it’s long term effectiveness. any war against terrorism must certainly protect the west from terrorist attacks, but it must also work towards creating a global environment wherein the poor and disenfranchised feel less inclined to support the demons who advocate the use of terrorism.
i hope and trust that our leaders will be wise enough to respond to terrorism in measured and effective ways.
