i was just watching saturday night live, and mayor giuliani came on to do a little cameo. the woman on ‘weekend update’ said something to the effect of ‘thank you mayor giuliani for helping us to get through one of the most difficult periods in our lives’ and i got kind of choked up. i can’t help but think nice thoughts about mayor giuliani, even if at times his seemingly arbitrary policy decisions have been sort of baffling. at the end of the day he was a very honest and human politician, and that’s admirable as far as i’m concerned. if you had asked me 2 years ago if i would miss mayor giuliani when he left office i probably would’ve laughed at the idea. but now things are different, and i will miss him.
strange, huh.
but he really did help us to get through the tragedy. and he behaved in such an honorable and exemplary fashion. would that more politicians were as brazenly human as mayor giuliani.
in other news…i’m at the stage in making my next record where one day i think that it’ll be a wonderful record, and the next day i think that i’m a complete failure and that it’ll be a terrible record and people will pelt me with garbage as i walk down the street. hopefully once the record’s finished it will engender something more akin to the first scenario. but we’ll see. if at some point people do feel the need to pelt me with garbage i only ask that you use soft garbage, like old heads of lettuce.
