when i first moved to manhattan i was walking up 6th avenue with damian and i saw the empire state building get hit by lightning, and it was amazing. obviously the empire state building is designed to be untroubled by lightning strikes.
but seeing the empire state building hit by lightning was really remarkable. the height and breadth of the sky was revealed, if only for an instant.
and tonight i was walking in the lower east side and i looked up to see the empire state building get hit by lightning again.
and, again, it was remarkable.
i remember in the late 80’s seeing the world trade center get hit by lightning. that was remarkable, too. today was a busy day for storms.
the sky was roiled above my apartment. that sort of black and green turbulent storm-sky that makes you want to run to the root cellar and padlock the door.
i went onto my roof to watch the rain and lightning, but the storm was so intense that i had to retreat inside and watch the storm through my skylights.
today was a good day for insane weather.
kind of like living in venzuela(although i’ve never even been to venezuela).
the weather certainly is broken, cos i don’t remember having so many intense storms when i was growing up.
