let’s talk about complaining.
on occasion i’ve been known to complain.
about, well, just about everything.
here are my rules for complaining(not that i always follow them)-
it’s ok to complain when:
a-you have something valid to complain about(illness, inept politicians, etc)
and/or
b-you can complain in a manner that is somehow entertaining to the person(s) being complained to.
see, it’s ok to complain about nothing, just so long as it’s done in an entertaining fashion.
suppose, for example, you want to complain about a movie.
to say:
1-‘yo, that movie sucked, dude’.
isn’t really acceptable, because you’re just indulging in lowest common denominator complaining and in so doing you’re not entertaining whomever might have the misfortune to be listening to your complaint.
to say:
2-‘developmentally disabled hamsters could’ve made a better movie.’
is ok, because it’s kind of funny(not that there’s anything innately funny about developmentally disable animals. they deserve our love just like
the normal animals).
so my hope is that when i complain i either:
a-have a valid complaint and thus don’t have to be too concerned about entertaining whomever might be reading/listening
and/or
b-can complain in a way so as to entertain, and not waste the time of, the reader/listener.
please keep this in mind and maybe make a little effort to entertain when complaining and the world will be a vastly improved place.
i, too, shall keep this in mind and i shall, in the future, attempt to complain only when doing so can entertain.
thank you,
moby
