ok, hi, i’m back from my little holiday.
a week on the beach in new zealand.
i’ve even posted a few photos in the ‘moby visuals/moby photos’ section of the site. and while i’ve been gone some very interesting things have happened in the world…
such as:
1-a motion has been put forward in the house of representatives to eliminate the word ‘french’ from the menu in the cafeteria. henceforth ‘french’ shall be replaced with ‘freedom’. as in ‘freedom fries’ and ‘freedom toast’. yes, this is the dumbest thing to have happened in the last week. kind of makes you wish that politicians had mothers who could grab them by the ear and say ‘stop fighting! now shake hands and make up and stop being stupid.’ although it does seem as though american politicians and french politicians are battling each other to see who can be more juvenile and tantrumy. i don’t know if ‘tantrumy’ is a word. well, it is now. at least here it is.
2-someone sent me a photoshopped image of eminem as draco malfoy and me as harry potter. it made me laugh. i’d post it here but i don’t want to incur the wrath of harry potter inc.
p.s-i look good with the little lightning bolt scar.
3-i had a wonderful weeklong holiday. new zealand is unspeakably beautiful. it’s a good thing that it’s so far away from the rest of the world, otherwise it would completely overrun with tourists(like me). i’ve only seen 1/100th of the country, but the 1/100th that i’ve seen is unbelievable. stunningly beautiful.
4-the united states(and poor tony blair…)seem to be bent on war no matter what. rather than rail against something that appears to be an inevatibility i would just like to say that personally i’m a pacifist and i hope that the war is as brief and as bloodless as possible for all involved. we would all seem to be powerless to effect or influence the bush administrations decision to attack iraq, so perhaps our best course of action at this point would be to hope and pray that the war ends up hurting as few people as possible. this might seem defeatist on my part. perhaps it is. but personally i just hope that the war is as brief and bloodless as it could possibly be. what other recourse do we have in the face of an aggression that has seemingly become an inevitability?
5-speaking of the bush administration…if you haven’t read ‘stupid white men’, do yourself a favor and go buy a copy and read it asap. michael moore deserves to be knighted. between ‘bowling for columbine’ and ‘stupid white men’ he has done more to advance the cause of political sanity and democracy and dissent than any other living american that i can think of. i don’t know him personally, and who knows, he might be a jerk, or a saint, i dunno, but his books and movies are terriffic and important. go read/buy ‘stupid white men’. please.
6-one last dumb but weird and scary thing…i went to see ‘the ring’ on a rainy tuesday at a movie theater near the beach house where i was staying(well, 1 hour from the beach house). and it scared the shit out of me(figuratively, thanks.). and get this…the room in which i was sleeping at piha beach in auckland had half of a stone well in it… when have you ever heard of a room in a house with half of a stone well in it? i’m a scaredy-cat at the best of times. seeing ‘the ring’ and then sleeping in a room with half a stone well gave me some very unsettled nights…. if you’ve seen ‘the ring’ you’ll understand how weird this is. if you haven’t seen ‘the ring’, well, don’t. it’s too scary. i love/hate scary movies. as do we all.
good luck and have a nice weekend,
moby
