last night i went to a wedding in new york. i have to admit that normally i’m kind of cynical when it comes to weddings. i’ve been to a lot of weddings where it’s clear that either the families don’t like each other or the bride and groom are doomed from the start. so i went to this wedding with my cynical new yorker defenses up.
but this was a different type of wedding in that everyone involved genuinely cared for one another.
i felt a bit like the grinch at the end of ‘the grinch who stole christmas’.
i went to this wedding with a cynical black heart, but being surrounded by so many people who genuinely loved each other turned my cynical black wedding heart into a regular, un-cynical wedding heart.
the two families seemed to love each other and they seemed to genuinely love their children.
the bride and groom seemed to genuinely love each other.
their friends seemed to genuinely love one another.
it was genuinely touching.
so i stand today as considerably less cynical regarding weddings and marriages than i was yesterday.
which is good.
