Journal / LA

ok, just to let you know, i promise that i have never and will never use an alias on the boards. as i said in a much earlier post, that somehow seems like cheating to me. i’ve got my little ‘updates’ section here, i don’t want to get greedy.

i’m listening to ‘play’ for the first time in a few months. and i’m concerned that now that i have a pro-tools set up with lots of new and fancy synths, etc i’ll end up making records that sound like bad soundtracks to eddie murphy movies from 1985. maybe i should move to l.a and get an ugly house in the hills and start having power lunches and ‘developing’ projects. i do love l.a, though. and i hope that if i move there at some point i don’t become the awful cliche that is so ubiquitous in certain parts of the city. you know, the guy with the expensive blazer over the gap t-shirt and the ray-bans and the black european car (bmw, mercedes, volvo, porshe, etc) and the model-actress girlfriend and the ‘zone’ diet, etc. but who knows?

maybe it’s fun to live like that. script development meetings in hot tubs. power breakfasts at new and terrible restaurants. weekend trips to aspen.

hmm…i love the line in ‘dumb & dumber’ where jim carrey says “”aspen, huh? california. nice.””
‘dumb & dumber’ is a movie that i probably would never have seen had i not spent 2 years on a tour bus. but having spent 2 years on a tour bus i’ve now seen it approximately 175 times. somehow it’s perfectly suited to being parked up at a truck stop outside of des moines at 3 in the morning.

and i have to say that i’ve developed a really healthy appreciation for terrible and trashy american comedies. ‘dumb & dumber’ ‘kingpin’ ‘road trip’ etc.

terrible and wonderful at the same time, especially when watched in the front lounge of a tour bus with your touring friends.
