Journal / Just My Two Cents

ok, sorry to mention the news in an update, but i would just like to point out that from my perspective the real area of concern in the ‘war on terrorism’ is saudi arabia.
that’s where the islamic and the western governments are really paying attention. what transpires in saudi arabia could radically determine the course of human history, or so i believe.
if saudi arabia were to fall to islamic fundamentalists and if the flow of oil were cut off i believe that the price of a gallon of gas in the u.s would go from $1.25 to $6.00 almost overnight. the implications would be staggering.
which does of course lead one to start wondering about our reliance on oil.

considering we have 2 oilmen as president and vice-president i can’t exactly see the u.s getting behind alternative sources of power, but we really should.
i hope that one outcome of this period in history is that nations figure out ways of becoming more self-reliant as far as their power needs are concerned. and the only real way of accomplishing energy autonomy is for nations to work on developing renewable and sustainable forms of energy, such as hydro, wind and solar power, and to work on serious energy conservation.

well, at least that’s my opinion. but it does seem pretty logical, doesn’t it? why should so much of our economy and foreign policy be based on oil when there exist viable ways of lessening our oil reliance?

just my two cents.
thanks
