so last night i went to see jane’s addiction at msg and it made me want to go back and re-listen to their records. i haven’t listened to a jane’s addiction record in about 10 years, but hearing them live renewed my interest in their music. and it reminded me of the first times that i saw jane’s addiction. the first time was in the late 80’s in port chester, new york when they were opening for iggy pop. and the second time was at a little place in nyc called the ‘cat club’ in 1988 (i believe, maybe 1987?) and there were maybe 10 people there. i don’t remember much from the 1988 show except that perry was really, really trying hard to entertain the 10 people in the cat club. he is a good showman.
and last night there was an aftershow party that i had been looking forward to. i was expecting good old rock and roll debauchery, but all that i saw were models flirting with movie stars and vice versa.
which is ok, i guess, but it’s no substitute for good, old-timey rock and roll debauchery. i have a bad cold, so maybe that compromised my appreciation for the rock and roll show after-party.
