Journal / in rio now

hi,
in rio now.
we played last night in the rain.
in the rain?
in rio?
isn’t it sunny, like 360 days out of the year here?
well, it was still a fun show, although i felt like an ignorant yankee for not being able to say anything in portuguese apart from ‘obrigado’.
although today at lunch i learned how to say some practical things in portuguese, like:
‘in kants critique of pure reason certain contextual points are made that might be seen as precursors to a deconstructivist, if not marxist, analytic approach to an epistemological, rousseauian theory of mind.’
you know, every day sort of things.
and today we got to be tourists.
but as it was cloudy and raining we couldn’t do the usual ‘be a tourist in rio’ things, such as: beach, christ statue, sugarloaf, etc.
instead we wandered around the botanical gardens and went to a flea market and had lunch at a vegan restaurant and bough havaniera’s for our friends in nyc.
(note: havaniera’s are shoes, not cigars. and double note: i don’t know how to spell ‘havanieras’).
and tomorrow it’s back to sao paolo and then belo horizonte and then buenos aires and then cordoba and then home(well, in a week).
i hope you had a nice weekend,
moby
