Journal / I-MO

in the current issue of spin they printed a letter from me wherein i asked them to include roxy music as #51 in their ‘most influential bands of all time’ list.
some of you might only know roxy music from the ‘avalon’ period. if so, then you need to go back and rediscover early roxy music.
‘avalon’ is a really nice record. but their first 5 albums are phenomenal. especially the first 2 roxy music albums when eno was in the band.
if you know these early roxy music albums you’ll kind of understand why i think that they should’ve been included in spins list of ‘most influential bands of all time’. without roxy music we might not have had:
glam rock
punk rock
new wave
etc.
along with david bowie (and others) they kind of did everything first.
and they did it well. and with panache.
suffice it to say, i love roxy music. especially the first 5 albums.
like i said, ‘avalon’ and ‘manifesto’ are nice records, but ‘roxy music’ and ‘for your pleasure’ and ‘country life’ and ‘stranded’ are brilliant records that influenced just about anybody who was worth influencing.
imo.
