i love our republican mayor.
just for the record, our ‘republican’ mayor, mike bloomberg, became a republican in 2001.
he’s also one of the only republicans i know of who is:
a-in favor of same-sex marriages
b-in favor of stem cell research
c-opposed to teaching creationism in schools
d-pro gun control laws

in other words he’s smart and sane. unfortunately these 2 qualities are in short supply among his other republicans.
i mean, look at this list and spot the logical inconsistencies…
a-republicans are pro-life, but also pro-war and pro-death penalty.
b-republicans are anti-abortion, but also anti-birth control and anti-family planning.
c-republicans are opposed to big government, but they’ve created the biggest government in the history of the u.s.
d-republicans are pro-military, but almost no senior republican leaders served in the military or saw combat(with dick cheney’s famous line about why he didn’t serve in the military: ‘i had other priorities’…).
e-republicans are anti-terrorist, but pro nra, even though the nra routinely says that the reason to keep guns around is to battle the federal government.
f-republicans are ‘christian’, but yet they’re pro-capitalist, pro-death penalty,
and they routinely funnel money from the poor to the rich.

if all republicans were like mike bloomberg i’d think about becoming a republican.
the future of politics in the united states should be:
a-fiscal responsibility(the republicans have none)
b-protection of civil liberties(the republican record on this is disastrous)
c-informed foreign policy(iraq is the biggest foreign policy disaster in the history of the u.s)
d-a safety net for the poorest and disenfranchised(the republicans have cut public assistance whenever they’ve been able to)
e-environmental protection(this administration has the worst environmental record of any administration in the last 100 years)

ok, you get my point. the republicans are insane and they govern from a place of ignorance, fear, and cronyism.
for their own sake i hope that the republicans get their act together and stop behaving like ignorant southern baptists who know nothing about foreign policy and deficit spending.
