going out to dinner. going out to dinner.
new york is the best place in the world to eat. yeah, yeah, i know i spend way too much time extolling the virtues of nyc and veganism and skylights and etc, but nyc+veganism=fat and happy. last night i went to a restaurant called hangawi (which if you say it right sounds like an infant saying ‘hungry’) which is a very fancy, vegan korean restaurant. i went with my friends kelly and damian and we had this 9 course korean vegan meal that was just amazing. living in nyc and being a vegan.
it. is. great.
but i’m getting fat. kind of inevitable, actually. can’t tell if i’m wearing a belt. need help tying my shoes. that sort of thing. the temptations of urban bourgeoisie veganism are just too much for me to handle. i’m only human, kirk.
i have a good friend who eats. and eats. and eats. and she never gains weight. if i were that lucky i would just never stop eating. ok, i would stop occasionally for sex and dog runs (2 very seperate things. i’m open minded, but not that open minded).
tonight it’s indian food. lovely, greasy indian food. thank goodness nyc is such a mecca for people from other countries. they come here for economic opportunities and we get to eat their food. everyone benefits, right? my favourite, though, has to be ethiopian food. ohhhh (i’m drooling like homer).
if you live in detroit you have to go to the blue nile (i think that’s what it’s called). it’s in greek town and it’s amazing. we have great ethiopian restaurants in nyc, but that ethiopian restaurant in detroit is the best in the country, in my opinion.
i’m such a food whore. and today for lunch i had tofurkey slices on thick whole grain bread with cucumber slices and mustard. it was outstanding. like i said, i’m a food whore. ok, i’m a food slut, cos i don’t actually get paid to eat. so that’s more appropriate.
moby the food slut. the food trollope. i should stop now. for it is kind of distasteful to get too worked up about food in an ostensibly public forum. but in closing, the indian restaurant in nyc that i love has this tvp dish that is one of my favourite things in the world. especially with saffron rice and that cool onion stuff. ok, food time.
