ok, time for some home-town pride…hooray new york!
over 200,000 protestors protesting the bush administration, the largest demonstration at a political convention in the history of the united states, and all very peaceful and respectable(the police were so bored they had to resort to arresting people riding by on bicycles…).
and hooray for all of the people who came from outside of new york to join the protest.
and it leads me to ask the question that has been nagging at me for a while now, which is:
what exactly is the republican platform/agenda?
for many years the republicans believed in small government, but the bush administration has created the largest federal government in the history of the united states.
for many years the republicans believed in fiscal responsibility, but the bush administration has created the largest federal deficit in the history of the united states as well as presiding over the loss of 1,500,000 jobs.
for many years the republicans believed in informed and pragmatic foreign policy, but the bush administration has alienated our allies and waged an unnecessary war that has cost $100 billion dollars and over 10,000 lives(including the lives of 1,000 brave american soldiers).
so what do republicans believe?
we all know that they’re anti environment, anti-education, anti-personal freedom, anti-bill of rights, anti-health care, etc.
but what are they for?
they’re for corporate welfare.
they’re for subsidized oil.
they’re for big government handouts to the defense industry.
but what else? i mean really, what else?
seems like some smart democrats could/should come along and say: ‘we’re pro-environment, pro-education, pro-freedom, pro-economy, pro-health care, pro-national security’, and clean-up.
ah well. once again, hooray new york, and hooray to the over 200,000 protestors who peacefully protested against the bush administration today.
